Chula Vista race report
Chula Vista is my home track, with the fans and my family supporting me, and a track that doesn’t favor any driver, this is where I should perform best. My truck showed up to Chula Vista prepped and ready to go. On Friday we got three laps of practice to check out the track and the truck. The track has changed from the last time we were here, they put in this huge bowl turn that made the course 100 times better. When we went out for practice everything went pretty well. After the practice we changed the gear ratio in the rear end and made the truck a little softer for more forward bite and that was about it.
Saturday morning after the drivers meeting we had one more 3 lap practice and everything went good. The gear ratio change was perfect and the truck was actually hooking up pretty good. All day Saturday I watched the other races and reviewed tapes of our practice to make sure that I knew every inch of the track. Right before I race my dad and I always go over everything to make sure that I know where the track is over watered and where the fast lines are and what to do in different situations. Then right before the green flag drops he always says “Do what come’s natural” and that just pumps me up and gets me ready to go. Well at the start I didn’t get the best of jumps so I was in the middle of the pack but by the end of the first lap I was around 5thplace. I held my position for the first half of the race and by the midway caution I was in 4th place. When we took off at the green I had to race through 4 or 5 lapped cars to get to the leaders and on the last lap I got around Kyle Leduc for 3rd, making it my first podium of the year. It was also awesome knowing that I am running on all terrain tires and everyone else is on mud tires. So there is more to come. After the race we had a huge crowd around our semis so I did autographs for a while and then we sat down and figured out how to go faster for Sunday.
Sunday morning my dad and David new it was time for a change so we did a new tire cut pattern, It was completely different than what we were running before. I was a little nervous going to the starting line, knowing we had changed a successful set up. When the flag dropped the car hooked up, and I got a good start. We were in the top ten off the start and I ran up to 5th,where I was on the midway caution. After the restart everything was going good until the car started shifting weird and making noises. I backed the pace down and finished 7th, making it my best weekend this year and showing everyone that I can run up front on all terrains. I can’t thank everyone enough for their support. With all the family and friends I have supporting me I couldn’t ask for anything different. And for all the sponsors, this weekend was my first podium, but is definitely not the last.
I want to say thanks to everyone that is helping me out
