Kurt Johnson |
Pro Stock winner Johnson left one-thousandth of a second ahead
of Stanfield and never looked back, leading the way to the
finish line at every incremental timer to record the 31st
victory of his career. It wasn't even close as K.J. stormed
through the timers in 6.726 seconds at 204.57 mph, a car length
ahead of Stanfield's 6.778, 203.71 effort.
"I had Jon Knapp [team publicist] look over the stats from
the last several years to see the closest I'd been to the points
lead coming into this race," Johnson said. "It was 139 points.
We arrived here just 94 back, so we're already ahead of the
game. To gain some more with this win makes it all the more
interesting for all of us in the championship chase and for the
fans as well.
"It's great to win back home here. We have lots of friends
and family here. I haven't been bit by one mosquito yet, so I'm
not entirely sure I'm back in Minnesota, but that's what they're
telling me. |
